The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a commercial motorcyclist, Niyiseun Oluwadare, and Lana Aderibigbe, who conspired with members of a syndicate and allegedly robbed a businesswoman of N1.2m while conveying her to the weekly market.

The 35-year-old motorcyclist, who was said to be a regular driver for the trader, had been conveying her to the Alade market every five days and planned with others to rob the woman on the fateful day.

The robbers allegedly stopped the Okada rider and dispossessed the woman of N1.2m, while the Okada rider pretended not to know the armed men who ran away on another motorcycle with the money.

The woman reported the incident at the police station in Bolorunduro, and during the investigation, Oluwadare confessed to having planned with two others to rob the woman, and Aderibigbe was also arrested.

Confessing the crime, Oluwadare told journalists that he planned and conspired to rob the woman with two of his friends who gave him N20,000 as his share of the money stolen from the woman.

The father of two from Osun State said, “I have been taking the woman to the market every five days for the past two years, and I knew she usually carries a huge amount of money. Sometimes, when she does not have time to go, she would call on me and give me money to get the items for her.

“On that fateful day, I planned with one of the boys that issue tickets along Idanre road to carry out an attack on the woman, so as to collect the N1.2 million.

“We were three in number, but the third person ran away. But they only gave me N20,000, and they promised to give me an extra N280,000 after the police investigation.”

Speaking on the arrest of the two suspects, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami, said the police swung into action after the victim reported the incident at the police station.

“A woman visited the police station at Bolorunduro and reported that while going to Alade market with her personal bike man, she was robbed of the sum of N1.2m at gunpoint.

“After investigation, it was discovered that it was actually the bike man that set her up and robbed her with some of the syndicates working with the bike man.

“We have arrested another member of the syndicate, while one other is still at large, and men of the state detectives have been on the trail of the other suspect.”

Odunlami said the suspects would be charged in court after the investigation.
