Two of the masterminds behind the kidnapping of members of a household in Oha community, Okpe local government area of Delta State, two months ago have finally been arrested by the police.

The Divisional Police Officer in Oreorokpe personally led the men of the divisional anti-crime patrol team to Ofuoma in Ughelli North local government area, where the suspects, 21-year-old James Aboyo and 21-year-old Solomon Gbolode, were apprehended and a cache of arms and ammunition was uncovered.

Briefing newsmen in Asaba on Monday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said that following the arrest of the two suspects, the police team proceeded to search the premises and hideout.

During this operation, a 22-year-old male named Blessing Deco was arrested, while other gang members, upon sighting the police team, fled.

According to the spokesperson, exhibits recovered during the search included four AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, one locally made single-barrel cut-to-size pistol, fifty-eight rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, thirteen live cartridges, five packs of improvised explosive devices, six detonators, and eight empty magazines.

The Command had earlier arrested some suspected kidnappers in the household saga, including one Ese-Oghene Ezekiel, who masterminded the kidnapping of his brother (name withheld) and members of his family at Oha community, Okpe council area. During this incident, Regina Ogana, the brother’s wife, was shot dead.

DSP Edafe reiterated that the war against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other vices has been reinvigorated in the state. He added that the State Police Boss, Wale Abass, is resolute in making the state a hostile ground for all persons of questionable character.

He called on every Deltan to be involved in the efforts by volunteering useful information to aid the command’s operations.
