Portugal’s first goal against Uruguay, which was awarded to Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is still being contested by the Portuguese Federation.

According to reports, the Portuguese FA wants the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) to award Portugal’s first goal against Uruguay to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo thought he had scored his second goal of the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar as he jumped high to nod in Bruno’s cross.

FIFA, however, thought otherwise and gave the goal to Fernandes with football’s world governing body writing: “In the match between Portugal and Uruguay, using the Connected Ball
Technology housed in adidas’s Al Rihla Official Match Ball, we are able to definitively show no contact on the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo for the opening goal in the game.

“No external force on the ball could be measured as shown by the lack of ‘heartbeat’ in our measurements. The 500Hz IMU sensor inside the ball allows us to be highly accurate in our analysis.”

Nevertheless, according to @elchiringuitotv: “The Portuguese Federation are going to present evidence to FIFA to prove that the first goal against Uruguay was Cristiano Ronaldo’s and not Bruno Fernandes’.”
