Barring last minute changes, the House of Representatives will today (Tuesday) hold the third Sectoral Debate on Agriculture and Food Security.

Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi confirmed this in a statement made available to Parliamentary Correspondents.

According to him, “this event, which marks the third in a series of sectoral debates, is in line with the legislative agenda of the Rt. Honourable Abbas Tajudeen-led 10th Assembly.

“Building on the success of previous editions focusing on Security and the Economy, the forthcoming debate will shift the spotlight to the crucial area of *Agriculture and Food Security.

“The House of Representatives remains committed to addressing key national issues and seeks to foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration in these critical sectors.

“Esteemed guests from the Executive arm of government and key multilateral agencies have been invited to contribute their expertise to the discussion.”

Among the dignitaries expected to participate include: Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; Minister of State of Agriculture and Food Security; Minister of Blue Economy.

Others are: Comptroller-General of Customs; Director-General of NEMA; Country Representative of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO); Managing Director of NIRSAL; Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture and Chief Executive Officer of the Agriculture Development Programme (ADP).

Hon. Rotimi expressed optimism that the Stakeholders’ “insights and perspectives will enrich the debate as stakeholders explore strategies to enhance agricultural productivity, ensure food security, and promote sustainable development.

“In accordance with Order Six, Rule 4(1)(ix) and (2) of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, the distinguished guests will be welcomed into the Chamber for the purpose of the Sectoral Debates on the Agriculture and Food Security sector, as stipulated in Order Seventeen, Rule 1(3).

“The event promises to shed light on crucial issues impacting our nation’s agriculture and food security sector and shape legislative actions to contribute to addressing them,” he noted.
