Upon resuming from the prolonged Easter and Sallah recess next Tuesday, members of the House of Representatives will deliberate on a motion that seeks to replace hundreds of Nigerian doctors and other medical workers who have migrated to other countries.
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Tochukwu Okere, aims to address the impact of the ‘japa’ syndrome. It is scheduled for discussion on the Notice Paper seen by the Nigerian Tribune for Thursday, 2nd May 2024.
Also listed on the Notice Paper for Tuesday are: a motion on the ‘Need to commence the construction of a rail service from Itakpe in Kogi State to Abuja,’ sponsored by the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Hon. Francis Waive, as well as a motion on the ‘Rehabilitation of Yola-Girei-Song-Gombi-Hong-Mubi federal roads in Adamawa State,’ sponsored by Hon. James Barka.
The lawmakers are also expected to deliberate on the motion seeking to connect ‘Gajiram Via Mungono to Marte Local Government Area Headquarters, Borno State, to the National Grid,’ sponsored by Hon. Bukar Talba.
Also listed for second reading on the floor of the House is a bill for an Act to regulate Factoring, Purchase of Receivables, as well as the establishment, operation, and control of business organizations engaged in Factoring and Receivables Financing, sponsored by Hon. Mohammed Bello el-Rufai.

Due to the annual Workers’ Day celebration, the House is expected to adjourn and reconvene on Thursday, during which the lawmakers are expected to deliberate on a bill seeking to amend the 1999 Constitution with a view to providing for the creation of Oke-Ogun State with Saki as the proposed capital city, sponsored by Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun.
Also slated for Thursday is a bill seeking to provide for the Conservation and Management of Nigeria’s Wildlife, as required under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), and associated agreements and protocols, and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), sponsored by Hon. Terseer Ugbor.
