A former chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Honourable Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has admonished political actors in the country not to turn the country into a theater of war following the conclusion of the recently held general elections in the country.

NIGERIAN TRIBUNE reports that since the President-elect, Bola Tinubu was declared as the winner of the February 25 presidential election, the country has been divided along ethnic, tribal and religious lines with the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi respectively already challenging Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

Candido, in an interview with NIGERIAN TRIBUNE in Abuja said only God gives power to whosoever He wishes. He said rather than engage in acts that can further widen the gaps in the country, every politician must come together to work for the progress and unity of the country.

“The most important message is that leadership comes from God whether through elections or by appointment. You cannot appoint or install yourself in any position because it is only God that gives power to whosoever He wishes.

“My advice or admonition to the political class of which I am one is that you must not necessarily contest elections and win. You could lose and be for your own good or the good of the nation. For me, if you contest today and you win, it is just a trial. It is something that God brings to your doorstep for you to do good for the next world. It is not to see the world as a comfortable zone. It is just a trial for you to know that you have been given the opportunity to serve the people and humanity because this position can give you the next world or could lead you to doom.

“Therefore, for those who did not make it this time around, they should not cause crisis across the nation thinking everything is gone. They can wait (for next time) it is likely for their good. They should see it in the spirit of ‘It is God that gives’ and once He gives you or he is able to give you, you should just know that it is not for your comfort alone but for the people who have elected you as their leader. We must all come together for the unity and progress of Nigeria,” the former council boss said.
