As part of efforts to improve housing for its growing population in the state, Sokoto State government has approved about 1.8 billion naira to acquire 136 housing units constructed by the immediate past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The state commissioner for information, Sambo Bello Danchadi, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the end of the state executive meeting on Wednesday at the council chamber in Sokoto.

He said, “The council approved the purchase of 136 houses built by the federal government under the national housing scheme, which will now be owned by the state government.

“Following this agreement, government has decided to waive the cost of infrastructure while the cost of the house as agreed with the federal government stands at 1,828,458 which is expected to be fully paid in instalments for three months.

The council, according to the state commissioner for information, who led two of his colleagues at the council chamber also approved the construction of two new motor parks as well as two trailer parks to ease congestion as well as to pave the way for more revenue generation in the state.

“The construction of the first motor park at Kwanawa area of the metropolis will cost over 165 million naira while the second motor park at Farufaru area of Wamakko local government will gulp 172,385,763,83 million naira.

“The two trailer parks which was approved by the council expected to cost the state over 495 million naira”

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Water Resources Alhaji Yusuf Maccido explained that the council approved 284,779,000 for the reconstruction of the recently burnt house of the former president, Shehu Shagari, which is expected to be completed within six months.

Similarly, the purchase of a permanent secretariat for the newly established Sokoto Community Guard Corps, currently undergoing training at the NYSC permanent orientation camp at N202m.

It also approved the purchase of six additional vehicles into the convoy of the state governor and his deputy.
