Groups have called out to Nigerians to boycott Wole Soyinka’s books and events for betraying Nigerian’s trust.

On Monday, the Nobel Prize-winning playwright Prof. Wole Soyinka came under fire from the Free Nigeria Movement and other civil society organisations for his recent media outburst over the 2023 General Election and other related problems.

The organisation demanded a complete boycott of all of the Nobel Prize winner’s books, accusing him of being insensitive to the country’s mood and betraying Nigerians’ confidence.

The group, which Dr. Moses Paul leads, claimed that while Nigerians, particularly the youth, were demonstrating for justice over the results of the 2023 elections, Soyinka, who has previously advocated for a better society, swiftly switched sides to support those who oppress the masses and the rule of law.

He claimed that the group did not condemn Soyinka’s media follies because of his political leanings but because he had failed to speak up for the people, particularly when all men of conscience were required to free Nigeria from its relentless oppressors.

Moses remarked that the Nobel Prize winner had overlooked that the teenagers who had long looked up to him as a role model were the group subjected to the most harassment during the elections.

“The Nigerian youth represents the most exploited demographic in Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu’s illegal behavior,” he stated. He toiled with your confidence in the integrity of the democratic process and your dependence on it.

Despite knowing he would close it as soon as the elections were over, he made you see a glimmer of hope at the end of a gloomy tunnel.

“The recent remarks by Prof. Wole Soyinka are disappointing and terrible. We object to his comments, but not because of any of the persons, political parties, or movements mentioned; instead, we object to his emotionless diversion from the election’s core problems to engage in what appears to be a selective witch-hunt.

As far as is known, Prof. Wole Soyinka never denounced the egregious act of racial profiling, incitement, and hate speech by individuals like Musiliu Akinsanya (also known as MC Oluomo), Bayo Ononuga, Femi Fani-Kayode, and a host of other abhorrent people. Or are they not acting in a fascist manner?
