The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved N10,000 each for public workers and pensioners in the state as cash palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, that the cash palliatives will commence from July , and would run for three months in the first instance.

Abiodun equally approved payment of hazard allowance for all health and medical personnel across the State.

The governor also approved payment of Peculiar Allowance for public servants and immediate release of Letters of Promotion in respect of 2021 and 2022.

He directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies to work out modalities of ensuring that 20 percent of their staff strengths are off-duty daily to ease the effect of recent increase in fuel price among others.

The statement noted that Gateway Trading Company has been directed to ensure the establishment of distribution outlets across the state, while items must be sold at the rate obtainable before the fuel price increase.

“The State is also establishing a commodity exchange to ensure optimization of current and future investment in the Agro-allied sector of the economy in line with President Tinubu’s war on food insecurity,” the statement added.

Other measures include the commencement of conversion of State Mass Transit buses to CNG including staff buses and current public transportation buses to reduce the cost of transportation. The new transportation arrangement will ease transportation difficulty in the State.

 

Also recall that states like Edo, Kwara, Bayelsa have all rolled out plans such as monetary, transportation and reduction in work days to ease the current economic difficulty in their states.
