Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Lagos residents to continue to support members of the Armed Forces and their families for the sacrifices they are rendering the country.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the call on Sunday while speaking at the 2024 Armed Forces Rembrance Day Special Sunday Service, describing the annual remembrance day as important because it helps to appreciate the sacrifice of the fallen heroes and pray for the continued repose of their souls.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS), Mr. Gboyega Soyanwo, said the occasion was equally an opportunity to remember the families left behind by those had fallen in the battle as well as those who had become incapacitated, one way or the other, as a result of injuries sustained in the war front.

“We are gathered here in the presence of God and in thanksgiving to Him as we remember our fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice while preserving the unity and territorial integrity of our nation.

“Today, the government and the good people of Lagos State are united; to appreciate the sacrifice of the departed, to pray for the continued repose of their souls, to remember their families left behind as well as those who have become incapacitated (one way or the other) as a result of injuries sustained in the war front.

“This occasion also presents the opportunity for us to remember in our prayers members of our Armed Forces who are sacrificing so much to keep the country safe against evil forces across the country,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“I wish to call on all the good people of Lagos State to continue to support members of our armed forces and their families.

“Let us always remember them in our prayers so that God almighty will continue to grant them victory in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

“And  finally, may God Almighty continue  to repose the souls of our fallen heroes  in peace in Jesus mighty name. Amen,” he prayed.

The General Overseer (GO) of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, Daniel Olukoya, in his sermon, spoke on honouring sacrifice, saying that sacrifice was very important if anyone wanted to amount to anything in life.

Olukoya, who was represented by Assistant General Overseer, Ladoja Abiodun, sadly noted that many of the youths avoid going through the route of sacrificing to attain greatness, but each route, saying this was reason they got involved in many illegalities.

According to the cleric, one sacrifices in order to get something better, noting that behind every glory is a story.

This was just as he observed that good and great nations were built on sacrifice, urging that Nigerians must sacrifice to make the country a great nation.

“If you ever succeeded without sacrifice, it is because someone has made an earlier sacrifice. The sacrifice of today is the pleasure of tomorrow,” Olukoya said.
