President Bola Tinubu has replaced Orum Kalu Eke, a nominee for the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria who declined the appointment with Ruby Onwudiwe.

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio informed the Red Chamber of the development at plenary on Wednesday.

Senator Akpabio read a letter from President Tinubu, seeking confirmation of Onwudiwe.

In the letter, Tinubu said the confirmation request was in line with provisions of section 10, sub-section one of the Central Bank of Nigeria Establishment Act 2007.

“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Dr Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the CBN board of directors. The senate is invited to kindly note that Onwudiwe is a replacement for Mr Kalu Eke, due to the unavailability of Eke for the position.

“It is my hope, therefore, that the senate will consider and confirm in its usual expeditious manner, the appointment of Onwudiwe. Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

Checks revealed that the Senate had last month confirmed four out of the five nominees sent by President Tinubu as members of the board of the apex bank.

 Those confirmed included Robert Agbede, Ado Yakubu Wanka, Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Muslimat Olanike Aliyu.

Urum Kalu Eke did not appear before the Committee on Banking Insurance and other Financial Institutions for screening. Senator representing Abia North, Orji Kalu later disclosed on the floor of the Senate that Eke declined as he noted that the appointment would with his current job as a consultant to the World Bank, among others.
