The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, has dismissed petitions filed against David Idris Zacharias (APC-Kogi) member representing Idah Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The petition which was filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 National Assembly election, Mr Victor Uchola was dismissed for lack of merit.
The Tribunal ordered the candidate and the party to pay a fine of N200,000 for each of the three count charges and an additional N100,000 fine for wasting the court’s time, totaling N700,000.
Reacting to the judgment, Zacharias in a statement, said that he had confidence in the Judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
He said that he was confident that the mandate given to him by the constituents and the good people of Kogi would be retained.
According to the lawmaker, the judgment is a reflection of the will and aspirations of the people as expressed at the polls.
Zacharias, however, said that there is no victor or vanquish, extending his hands of fellowship to his opponent in the election.
He said that the primary objective is the development of the constituency urging his opponent to join hands with him for the overall good of the people of Idah.
Zacharias commended his party the All Progressives Congress (APC) for standing by him and for the confidence reposed in him.
He, therefore, urged supporters to be magnanimous in celebrating yet another victory and to ensure law and order in the constituency and in the entire state.
