The Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested a prime suspect in the murder of a couple, Mr. Rwang Danladi and Mrs. Sandra Rwang, and another suspect in connection with the murder of a Counsellor in Plateau State.

The late teachers were teaching at BECO Comprehensive Secondary School, Kwi village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Recall that on August 14, at BECO Comprehensive Secondary School, unidentified gunmen forced their way into the school and opened fire, killing a couple, Mr and Mrs Rwang, 37, and 28 respectively. In that incident, Mr. Emmanuel Davou, a 34-year-old, was hospitalised after sustaining machete wounds.

The OPSH, in a statement signed by its media officer, Captain Oya James, mentioned that Lukman Aminu, the prime suspect in the tragic murder at Beco Comprehensive Secondary School was successfully captured on November 18.

It pointed out that Aminu who has been on the watchlist of OPSH for his involvement in various crimes, will face justice for his alleged involvement in this heinous crime, adding that the troops are on the trail of the remaining culprits.

According to the statement, also apprehended by the troops was a suspected killer of a Counsellor, Hon Dung Chalong, in November 2023 at Chit village, Heipang District in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.

The OPSH disclosed that the suspect, identified as John Chunwang, 45, was apprehended by the tactical team of the OPSH last week during a raid operation at the suspect’s hiding place in Chit village, adding that items recovered from the suspect include a Dane gun and nine cartridges. The suspect confessed to having killed the victim with his locally fabricated gun over a land dispute.

Also, the troop acting on intelligence information raided a local weapon manufacturing factory at Ban village under Heipang district in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State and arrested the operator of the factory, Mr. Sunday Markus Dung.

“Items recovered from the factory include 6 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 1 submachine gun, 1 rifle, 1 pistol and 7 unfinished fabricated rifles. Others include a Lister generator, locally fabricated weapons tools, fabricating materials, military kits, four mobile phones, and some money.

“Furthermore, in the combined efforts to rid Plateau State of illicit drugs, which have continued to fuel criminalities, OPSH troops conducted raid operations at the hideout of suspected drug peddlers within Mangu town in Plateau State and arrested nine drug barons.

“The troop recovered huge quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa as well as several other illicit drugs from the criminal’s den hideout of drug peddlers in Mangu Local Government Area. The recovery and subsequent arrests were made possible through the resilience and tenacity of OPSH in its commitment to bringing criminals to justice.

The GOC 3 Div/Commander OPSH, Maj Gen AE Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the public for their unwavering support and cooperation with the troops of Operation Safe Haven and assured that the troops would remain committed, firm, and tireless in bringing perpetrators of criminal acts to justice while upholding the rule of law as well as ensuring the safety and well-being of communities.
