INEC Accuses Thugs For Hijacking Election Materials In Kano, Akwa Ibom, Enugu

Unidentified political thugs have set ablaze the residence of Olaojo Temitope Vincent’s father, a prominent political figure in Oye-Ekiti. Vincent, a former Ekiti House of Assembly aspirant, has been embroiled in conflict with party leaders over the party’s nomination for the state legislature. The incident occurred on the night of May 19, 2023, in Irona Quarters, Oye-Ekiti.

This follows a previous altercation on April 13, 2023, when political thugs allegedly affiliated with Vincent attacked the residence of Hon. Faniyi, resulting in the death of one staff member. Eyewitnesses reported that the thugs vandalized the property and set it on fire, using fuel, foam, cutlasses, and axes. They also looted valuables and filmed the premises. Mama Kemi, the sole tenant present during the attack, was reportedly dragged by the assailants.

Furthermore, witnesses stated that the thugs issued threats of further violence and property destruction if Vincent continued to interfere in local politics through his associate, Ige Adebayo, who contested for the APC House of Assembly ticket in 2023 and is currently abroad.

At the time of reporting, firefighters had not yet arrived at the scene, but the police had dispersed the attackers.
