Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, has once again reiterated the urgent need for State Police, describing it as a key component of restructuring the country.

Iba Adams restated the call in reaction to the statement made by the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Rules and Business, Hon. Francis Waive, that amending the Nigeria Police Act to accommodate State Police would take two years.

Adams, while giving insights into the urgency for the establishment of State Police, said in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Kehinde Aderemi, a copy of which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday, that the spike in the rate of insecurity across the country was a matter of great concern that needed an urgent solution that should not take up to two years to address.

According to him, the country does not need to wait till eternity before putting in place State Police, stating that one of the fundamental duties of the government is to provide security for the citizenry, and he maintained that State Police is a component of restructuring.

“We don’t need to wait till eternity before we get state police in Nigeria. State Police is a component of restructuring.

“One of the fundamental duties of the government is to provide security for the citizenry.

“So, we need State Police more than anything else to take care of the security deficits across the country,” the Yoruba generalissimo stated.

“Insecurity seems to have defied all measures. As far as I am concerned, the two-year constitutional timeframe is too much time for such a bill to be passed or adopted by both the House of Reps and the Senate.

“We do not need up to that. I do not think that is proper; two years is too much time, I disagree with that, especially at this time when there’s an emergency,” he added.

“Those involved in passing the State Police Bill should stop playing politics with people’s lives. They should stop playing politics with issues that are as sensitive as such. Nigeria has lost so much to the spate of insecurity, and we are yet to proffer a lasting solution to the challenges,” he further added.

Meanwhile, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, argued that the foundational problems of Nigeria can only be addressed with restructuring that is tied to regionalism.

The Yoruba generalissimo, while giving the stand, argued that restructuring to regionalism would take care of all the burning issues bordering on insecurity, economic, and political, declaring that such an approach would be the best solution to the various challenges in the country.

“Restructuring to regionalism will take care of all the burning issues bordering on insecurity, economic, and political. And that would be the best solution to the various challenges in the country,” he said.
