The Rivers State Police Command has detained a woman known as Godslove Olakada for reportedly pouring hot water on her husband, Olakada Ejire, after a domestic quarrel in the Agbonchia community in the state’s Eleme Local Government Area.
Her husband, Ejire was rushed to a hospital at Aleto Eleme, where he is currently receiving medical treatment, while the suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
According to an eyewitness, the woman had accused her husband of failing to provide her N15,000 shared between them and their children from the host community dividends, which led to a fight.
The mother of two became upset by the situation and poured hot water on her husband’s face while attempting to flee.
“Thereafter, she took the man’s Automated Teller Machine and attempted to flee with it but youths in the area handed her over to the police,” the witness said.
Spokesperson for the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, October 16, said the woman has been arrested.
“The Rivers state police, operatives, through credible intelligence, have arrested one Godslove Olakada (f) from Agbonchia Eleme on Saturday, 14/10/2023 at about 20:30hrs for pouring hot water on her husband, one Olakada Ejire (m),” the statement read.
“He was rushed to Famo Hospital at Aleto Eleme for treatment. The cause was domestic family issues
“An investigation has commenced to get to the root of the matter,” the PPRO added.
She urged members of the public to report distress situations to the police promptly.
