The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the revocation of land belonging to the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi (SAN).

The revocation letter dated September 26, 2023, issued by the Department of Land Administration of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is titled, “Notice of Revocation of Right of Occupancy with File No. 2858 within Asokoro (AO4) District, Abuja.”

According to the notice signed by Deeds Registrar, Engineer Umar Sayyadi, and addressed to the former AGF on behalf of the FCT Minister, “The FCT Minister has, in exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over plot No. 2858 within Asokoro (AO4) District for contravention of guiding terms of allocation.

“This is also in line with Section 28 subsections 5a and b. We regret the inconvenience this may cause you.

“Please accept the honourable minister’s highest regards,” the revocation notice stated.

Agabi, a senior advocate of Nigeria and politician, was twice Attorney General of the Federation when President Olusegun Obasanjo was in power.

He was appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1997, and in the April 1999 elections, he ran for governor of Cross River State but lost.

It would be recalled that Wike had, two months ago, approved the immediate revocation of 165 plots of land in the serviced districts of the Federal Capital City.

Some of the high-profile individuals affected by the action included the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi; former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Uffot Joseph Ekaette; and former Justice of the Supreme Court and chairman of the National Political Reforms Conference (NPRC), Late Justice Niki Tobi.

Others were former Justice of the Supreme Court, Udoma Udo Udoma; Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu; former Chairman of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah; and columnist Donu Kogbara, among others.

The FCTA explained in a statement that the revocation was premised on the failure of the allotted owners to develop the plots and added that the notice for the revocation as compiled by the Land Department was approved by Wike due to continuous contravention of the terms of the agreement as encapsulated.
