A renowned cleric of African Church Revd Richard Peters has come hard on the senator representing Akwa Ibom northeast in the Senate Mr Bassey Albert Akpan for allegedly disparaging the integrity of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during his campaigns.

Bassey Albert popularly called Oba who is contesting for 2023 governorship election under the platform of Young Progressive Party is also facing several corruption charges in court over his activities during his 7 years stint as finance commissioner in Akwa Ibom state.

Addressing Journalists on Wednesday in Uyo, Revd Richard Peters who is also a Frontline advocate of democracy and good governance noted that the senator’s 16 years in public service was a wasteful venture.

According to him, “With the flagging of the 2023 campaigns, there is some ugly political trends which some desparate politicians are employing with the intent to disparage decent people and arm twist the gullible public to garner undue advantage over thier more formidable opponents.

He emphasized ” In Akwa Ibom state a political opponent of the PDP candidate with serious and very weighty issues involving his poor character and dubious dealings in public offices for over 16 years is presently flying the alleged certificate forgery to cover up his tracks which are already in public domain.

“Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, a Governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party championing the alleged certificate forgery propaganda at campaign grounds is a man known to be morally bankrupt and unfit for leadership at any level.

“A mere search of his name in wekipediia reveals a man facing multiple and severe corruption charges that cut across his years as Akwa Ibom state finance Commissioner and presently Senator representing Akwa Ibom northeast in the Senate.

” Bassey Albert Akpan has been in office for over 16 years and in all these years, it’s been cases of dishonesty, corruption, bribery and misappropriation of public funds.

“Such weighty allegations are daily suppressed by the witty politician and his motley crowd of praise singers in preference to marlign the reputation built over the years by Pastor Umo Eno in the name of politics and political campaigns.

“In truth Akwa Ibom people are now wiser and know that OBA as he is called should no longer be tolerated or trusted with public office anymore having showed unprecedented greed, dishonesty and corrupt in his outing publicly these past years”.

He further highlighted that OBA openly admitted been a Cultist for Christ and stressed that the common understanding is that if he should be trusted with position of leadership at the level of governor then the society should expect the emergence of Kidnappers for Christ, Assassins for Christ, looters for Christ including fraudsters for Christ.

” If we allow such a Man to rule the state, we will be doomed, if we elect someone with such character deficit, then we will auto reverse the progress we have made as a state since it’s creation.

“Akwa Ibom people should be weary of people using dirty propoganda to gain underserved political mileage and to divert more weighty issues and vices surrounding them.

“All men of good will should publicly speak on the danger the society will face electing such people into serious position of leadership again” he intoned.

Peters described Pastor Umo Eno as a godly man with a rich history of changing people’s life through positive engagement in his many entrepreneurial outfits running for years now through his personal efforts.

He said Akwa Ibom people should be celebrating God’s gift for the people of state in the person of Pastor Umo bassey Eno whose antecedent in public offices so far is completely devoid of any self aggrandizement.
