The Commandant of the Ekiti State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), Brigadier General Ibukun Olu Adewa (Rtd), has sought more support from the state government and the citizenry for the outfit in 2024 and beyond.

Brigadier General Olu Adewa, who made the call in a statement he made available to newsmen, also commended officers and men of the corps for their cooperation in 2023 and asked for their further cooperation in 2024, saying this was necessary for the Command to continue to succeed in tackling the challenges of insecurity in the state.

He lauded Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his support for the Amotekun Command in Ekiti State, especially for encouraging and boosting the morale of his officers and men to stamp out crime and threats to life and property in the state.

The Ekiti Amotekun boss said among the strategies adopted by the Ekiti Amotekun Command was the touring of the 16 local government areas of the state after assuming office in August 2023, and added that they have been able to crack down on criminals in Ikere, Ise-Ekiti, Emure-Ekiti, Ogbese, Omuo, Ikogosi, and Odo Ado areas of Ado Ekiti, among others.

He called on Governor Abayomi Oyebanji to consider better welfare for the well-being of the officers and men of the Ekiti Amotekun Corps, whom he said were “working assiduously under him to rid the state of crime in the coming year 2024.”

He thanked the governor for increasing the salary of the officers and staff from N20,000 to N30,000, which, he said, took effect in July 2023, and urged the government to urgently intervene and encourage the families of the two officers who were victims in the recent robbery incident at Ikere Ekiti early in December 2023.

He prayed for Governor Oyebanji, his immediate family, members of his cabinet, all his appointees and officials, and aides for God’s continuous protection, guidance, and wisdom to continue to run the affairs of the state in the coming year and beyond.

He asked the governor to consider the provision of permanent office structures for the use of the Amotekun Command in the state to boost the performance of the outfit.
