The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock at the news of the death of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar N’Abba, describing the sad event as another huge national loss.
A statement issued on Wednesday by Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, said N’Abba was a courageous and visionary politician, forthright legislator, cultured democrat, and resourceful grassroots politician who believed in and fought for the democratic tenets of separation of powers and independence of the legislature; freedom of citizens; equity; and social justice; and played key roles in ensuring the stability and growth of the nation.
The PDP recalled how, as Speaker, he led other Democrats in the House of Representatives to chart the framework for the rebuilding of the legislative arm after a long period of military rule.
The statement added: “Despite the challenges, he was resolute in entrenching democratic practice and insisted on strict adherence to the Rule of Law and transparency in governance with effective legislative oversight of government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
“Rt. Hon. N’Abba remained committed to the nation, especially in playing pivotal roles towards the deepening of democracy and salvaging the country from the stranglehold of oppressive forces.”
The PDP commiserated with the Na’Abba family, the National Assembly, the government, and the people of Kano State.
The party prayed to the Almighty Allah to console the family and grant his soul Al-Jannah Fiddausi.
