Former Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Prof. Suleman Elias Bogoro, was honoured by the Tapshin Community in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Monday.

The community recognized Bogoro’s outstanding contributions to national and community development over the years. During the 2023 cultural festival held at the Community Secondary School in Tapshin, the Village Head, Nde Dauda Saleh Godit, conferred upon Bogoro the regalia and title of Jagaban Tapshin.

Godit commended Bogoro’s initiatives in developing educational facilities and providing bursaries for students even before his appointment as TETFund Boss in 2014.

The traditional leader also acknowledged Bogoro’s unprecedented achievements in lifting tertiary education in Nigeria to its desired place of pride.

Bogoro initiated innovative policies in research and development to contribute to national development, and almost all public tertiary institutions in the country benefited from infrastructural developments and capacity-building programs during his tenure as TETFund Boss.

In his response, Bogoro noted that he deliberately implemented policies to ensure ethnic and religious harmony.

He stated, “My policy is that if you eat in your house, you should also assist your neighbours to eat because if they are hungry, it means you are also hungry.” He promised to sustain his assistance to Tapshin Community and urged guests at the event, which included fundraisers for water projects, to support the community to achieve its goals.

The ex-TETFund Boss also commended Bauchi state Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for the execution of the Bogoro-Lusa-Mallar and Boi-Tapshin roads, which have opened up communities around the area. Bogoro called on the people of the state to continue to support the Governor’s efforts aimed at providing development to the state.

The cultural festival, “Kang Khishi Masur 2023,” was graced by people from all walks of life, including sons and daughters of the area, such as Prof. Sylvester Shikyil (SAN) of the Law Faculty, University of Jos, and Dr Justina Deshi.

The event featured traditional dancers from towns and villages in Tapshin communities and Zaar Cultural dancers.
