The newly elected National President of the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), National Headquarters, Miftahu Oyempemi, has described his emergence as an opportunity to enhance educational experience and well-being of Osun state students nationwide.

Oyempemi, who is a 300-level student of the Religious Studies department, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, stated this while reacting to his victory and subsequent swearing-in following an election held on Sunday.

The election which was held at the Osogbo City Hall all, Olonkoro, Osogbo had 61 electorate (delegates) in attendance, 2 from each local government and 1 from the area council ushered in Miftahu Oyempemi and other members of the NAOSS National Headquarters into office excluding the office of the Director of Sports which had no aspirant. 

Miftahu Oyempemi, who also doubles as the President of the National Association For Religious Studies Students, OAU Chapter, polled 43 votes to defeat his rival, Folorunsho Olawale, a student from Adeyemi College Of Education, who scored 17 votes. 

Speaking on his victory, Oyempemi extended his gratitude to the Executive Governor of the State, Ademola Adeleke; Osun State Chief Of Staff, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye; SSA to the State Governor on Students Matter, Comrade Oladejo Bashiru Aderoju; and other stakeholders of the students body. 

“I am deeply honoured and humbled by the overwhelming support I received from the students, stakeholders, and friends of Osun State in the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) election held on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Your votes have entrusted me with the responsibility of serving as the new National President, and I am sincerely grateful for your trust and confidence in my ability to lead,” he said.

Continuing, the new National President assured students of the state of his readiness to collaborate with them in enhancing their educational experience and well-being nationwide.

He added, “To the students of Osun State, your commitment to the democratic process and your belief in my vision for NAOSS have not gone unnoticed. I am excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with you to enhance the educational experience and well-being of Osun students across the nation.

“I extend my gratitude to the stakeholders who played a crucial role in supporting my candidacy. Your involvement has contributed significantly to the success of our campaign, and I am eager to engage with you to address the diverse needs and concerns of Osun students at the national level.”

In his reaction, the  SSA to the State Governor on Students Matter, Comrade Oladejo Bashiru Aderoju, congratulated the newly elected President and urged the new leaders with the responsibility of advancing the interests of the student body and encourage the President and other executives to prioritise governance over politics for the betterment of all students.

He further urged those who did not secure victory to unite with the executive team in making the students’ interests a shared objective.
