The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, commended President Bola Tinubu on Saturday for the inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in his government.

President Tinubu, on Thursday of this week, appointed a physically challenged Nigerian, Mr. Mohammed Abba Isa, as Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information/Communication, Mrs. Joke Akinsanmi, Professor Suleiman praised Mr. Isa’s appointment and described President Tinubu as a responsive and listening leader.

Professor Suleiman also expressed admiration for President Tinubu’s decision to appoint youths into the federal cabinet, a move influenced by a request made during one of NILDS’s programs on ‘inclusive governance.’ This request was emphasized during the Women in Governance conference organized by NILDS in August, where the Director-General advocated for the appointment of a Youth Minister, a call that was promptly answered by President Tinubu with the appointment of qualified Nigerians below the age of 40.

Recalling a recent public dialogue and technical engagement on inclusive governance organized by NILDS in collaboration with Westminster, Professor Suleiman highlighted his call for the inclusion of persons with disabilities. He expressed gratitude that President Tinubu promptly and decisively acted on this request, appointing Mr. Mohammed Abba Isa as the Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters.

“I wish to express my gratitude to Mr. President for his timely and decisive action in appointing Mr. Mohammed Abba Isa as Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters. This action underscores the responsiveness of our President, portraying him as a leader who listens,” he said.
