Owaloko Condoles with Owa Obokun-in-Council and Ijesa People Over the Demise of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, CFR, LLD (Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland)

Alayeluwa Oba (Dr.) Akeem Olusayo King Ogungbangbe, Ajagbusi-Ekun VI, Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, has expressed deep sorrow on behalf of himself and the people of Iloko-Ijesa over the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, CFR, LLD, the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland.

In a statement, Oba Ogungbangbe extended his heartfelt condolences to the Owa-in-Council, the royal family, and the entire Ijesa community, both at home and abroad. He described the news of Oba Aromolaran’s death as a great loss that has left the people of Ijesaland in mourning.

Oba Ogungbangbe acknowledged the long-standing customs and traditions upheld by Oba Aromolaran, explaining that as the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, he must observe the time-honored tradition of waiting until the ninth day (“Isan”) after the demise of a reigning Owa before making a condolence visit or sending formal messages. This, he emphasized, is a reflection of the values that Oba Aromolaran faithfully preserved throughout his 42-year reign.

The Owaloko also highlighted his personal connection to the late monarch, recalling the fatherly role Oba Aromolaran played in his life, particularly during his coronation ceremony on July 24, 2021. Oba Ogungbangbe noted that the late Owa Obokun’s presence and support during that event held great significance for him, his family, and the people of Iloko-Ijesa.

“I join millions of people across the globe in paying tribute to our beloved and respected monarch, who was an embodiment of tradition, intellect, and responsibility. His remarkable contributions to the progress of Ijesaland will forever be remembered,” Oba Ogungbangbe said.

He further praised Oba Aromolaran as an enigmatic leader who brought monumental achievements to Ijesaland during his reign, and whose selfless service to his people will leave a lasting legacy.

Signed:
Alayeluwa Oba (Dr.) Akeem Olusayo King Ogungbangbe, rpa, FDM
Ajagbusi-Ekun VI, Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa
