The police on Thursday vowed to deal with thugs and criminal elements who may want to disrupt Saturday’s Kogi governorship election.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Operations, Ahmed Habu-Sani, made this statement at a news conference held at the Kogi Police Command.

Mr Habu-Sani urged residents to assist the police by providing useful information that could help track down criminal elements before, during, and after the election.

“As security operatives, we shall make our presence felt in all nooks and crannies of Kogi during this election, as various deployments of personnel have been carried out.

“This is because we have prioritised deployment in proportion to areas with security needs and conditions.

“We have all the needed officers or personnel at all levels. Some came from afar to enhance our work.

“The security operatives in the field shall ensure restrictions on movement. Only those who have been accredited with stickers will be allowed to move,” he said.

The DIG mentioned that security operatives were ready to secure the state and contain any unpleasant situation before, during, and after the election.

He warned those who might want to test their might to try and see the result because “we are ready to deal with them.”

“The electorate should rest assured of adequate security during the election,” he said.

He called for information on troublemakers from residents to help contain their nefarious activities.

“This becomes imperative because we want a free, fair, and peaceful conduct of the election.

“The security will be in two folds: security cover for voters, INEC officials, and protection of lives and property for all residents, ensuring Kogi remains peaceful,” he said.
