Five weeks after unknown gunmen lay siege to his palace and whisked him to an unknown destination, the monarch of Ikuru town in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRM Aaron Ikuru, has regained his freedom.
Recall that the gunmen had invaded King Ikuru’s while he was having a meeting with some of his kinsman, shot sporadically before he was abducted on Sunday morning, February 21st, 2021.
Later that evening, a senior lecturer at the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, Dr. Jones Ayouwo, also king Ikuru’s kinsman was also kidnapped along Bori, Khana local government area of the State, while returning from a Bible translation event in his native Andoni.
King Ikuru’s palace spokesman, Maurice Ikuru, who confirmed his release to our correspondent on Sunday morning, expressed happiness on the development.
Though he did not give details of how the monarch and chairman Andoni Council of Traditional Rulers gained freedom, he said the news of his release broke on Saturday night.
“Yes he has been released. We got the information yesterday (Saturday) night.
He said the monarch was released unconditionally without any ransom paid, adding that, “we just thank God for everything.”
When contacted, spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed his release, saying “the Command is in an estatic mood over what has happened.”
Omoni said a comprehensive press statement would be issued on the development later this morning after debriefing by the State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday.
