The security forces, including the Amotekun corps and local hunters, in Ekiti State have launched a search operation in the forests to locate the kidnapped state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Paul Omotosho.

Omotosho was abducted on Saturday evening by gunmen while driving to his hometown of Imesi-Ekiti along the Agbado-Ekiti – Imesi-Ekiti road in Gbonyin Local Government Area of the state.

A family source revealed to Nigerian Tribune that they were still awaiting a call from the kidnappers, possibly demanding a ransom, as no communication had been received since the abduction on Saturday.

Efforts to locate the APC chairman through a joint team of security operatives combing the nearby bushes and forests have not been successful thus far.

The source stated, “We are still in a very difficult situation since our man was kidnapped because we are yet to receive any call from the abductors since Saturday night. Security agencies, including our local people, have been searching the bush for him, but there is no progress yet regarding his whereabouts.”

In response to the incident, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, called on the security agencies to make every effort to secure the safe release of the party chairman. The governor emphasized that not only should Omotosho be rescued unharmed, but the perpetrators of the crime should also be apprehended and face the full weight of the law.

Representing the governor, Deputy Chief Monisade Afuye visited Omotosho’s family in Imesi Ekiti to express sympathy for the devastating incident. Governor Oyebanji also visited the Onimesi of Imesi Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Olatunde, to convey his displeasure over the disturbing incident.

Governor Oyebanji instructed the police and DSS operatives to conduct a thorough search of the sprawling forests along Agbado-Imesi-Irun Akoko in Ondo State and other suspected areas to safely rescue the victims from their captors.

The Governor described the incident as troubling and disturbing, pledging that his government would intensify efforts to crack down on those who occasionally terrorize Ekiti through senseless kidnappings.

As part of efforts to eliminate abductions in the area, Governor Oyebanji assured that the state forest reserves extending from Agbado-Imesi-Ise would be revitalized and utilized to dislodge criminals using the area as a hideout.
