As part of measures to ensure proper service delivery, the Sokoto State government through the  state Ministry of Information have resolved to accord adequate attention to the training and development of Information Officers in the ministry.

This was the centre point of a three-day workshop in collaboration with USAID State2State on Saturday, to develop standard operating procedures for Sokoto state ministry of information.

The participants also resolved to cascade the gains of the training to others who are not part of the training in order to sharpen their skills as well.

After a rundown of the ministry’s current challenges, State2State Communication Specialist, Israel Onu Odiba, moderated the breakout sessions on group discussions on key responsibilities and roles within the ministries; drafting key sections of the standard operating procedures; peer review and feedback session.

Sokoto state Commissioner of Information, Honourable Bello Sambo Danchadi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Muhammed, acknowledged that the training will impact on the information officers in the ministry by upgrading their standard operating procedure.

“This training comes at a good time and because we know the importance of training, this and many more training will trickle down to others who are not part of this training.

“We have identified the importance of training and development. Our assessment at the ministry has shown us areas we are weak and need to strengthen up.

“Taking into consideration, the yeoman job the Honourable commissioner is doing in terms of training, skills and equipment to adequately deliver on the mandate of the ministry, I can assure you of a rebranded ministry of information within a short space of time,” the Permanent Secretary stated.

A cross-section of the participants applauded the ministry of information collaboration with USAID State2State, in organising the workshop, acknowledging that it has upgraded their standard operating procedure.

They seek more of such training to turn around the fortune of the information sector of the state for greater results.
