Woos OBA to APC, promises to secure release
The Former Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has promised to secure the release of the imprisoned Senator representing Uyo Senatorial district, Akwa Ibom State, Obong Bassey Akpan popularly known as OBA.
He said he would ensure the release if only OBA would cross carpet to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
It could be recalled that Senator Akpan who is also the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP in the state was committed into Ikot Ekpene custodial centre by the federal high court over money laundry and bribe.
Akpabio during his 60th birthday celebration over the weekend was heard to have reassured Senator Akpan’s wife who was also present at the birthday bash of his decision to ensure the release of her husband.
He promised to take the jailed Senator’s wife to the Presidential Candidate of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu whom he believed would use his connection to secure Senator Akpan’s release.
It was gathered from an inside source that Akpabio said he will only take that step on the condition that the jailed Senator will sign an undertaking that he will join the APC afterwards.
According to our source, ”During Akpabio’s 60th birthday over the Weekend, he promised to take OBA’s wife who also attended the party to see Tinubu. Akpabio gave a condition that they will take document to OBA to sign that if they secure his release he will decamp to APC and his EFCC case will be squashed.”
The source also said Akpabio reassured his supporters to remain calm and resolute for his name as well as that of Akan Udofia the sacked governorship candidate of the APC would be on the ballot at the 2023 elections having done his underground work.
He also said Akpabio told the people that he had made Tinubu severally on the issue adding that over 60 percent of Supreme Court judges are Tinubu’s friends and contemporaries.
His words, “Akpabio disclosed that Tinubu had assured him and Akan Udofia that they will be on the ballot. He told his supporters to be calm that he had approached Tinubu several times and he told him to go to sleep that he will ensure that his name
appears on the ballot.
“He said Tinubu has met with so many judges that 60 to 70 percent judges are Tinubu’s contemporaries. He also assured him that Akan Udofia’s name that was earlier struck out at the federal high court Uyo will be on the ballot.”
It could also be recalled that Senator Akpabio having relinquished his presidential aspiration to the party’s candidate, Ahmed Tinubu ran back to his Senatorial district to drag the party’s Senatorial ticket with the candidate, DIG Udom Ekpoudom.
The High court recognized his candidacy nit it was upturned at the appellate court, though Akpabio has reassured his supporters to remain calm as he would emerge victorious at the supreme court. Continue Reading
