A loaded articulated truck with foreign wood catches fire on Sunday along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, by Enugu-Agidi junction, Anambra State.

It was gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 2.29 pm, was caused by the loss of control of the truck driver, which led to the crash.

“Although no life was lost in the crash, the inferno destroyed the lorry and large portions of its contents.

The State Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili, confirmed the incident, saying the fire was controlled by his men, who arrived on the scene shortly.

He said: “At about 1429hrs (2.29 pm) of today, Sunday 19-03-2023, Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call of fire outbreak at Enugu-Agidi junction opposite Zim Zam Hotel along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on a 911 lorry carrying foreign woods.

“Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and firefighters to the fire scene for the proper fire fighting operation.

“The fire emanated during a road crash as the lorry driver lost control of his steering.

“There was no lost of life during the road crash and fire outbreak.”
